LV-4: CERT Volunteers

After FEMA CERT certification, the CERT volunteer page is for citizens who want to specialize in activities supporting first responders, emergency management, and volunteer organizations during active events or exercises.

 


 

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members who volunteer (incident support) after training can assist Comanche County Lawton in emergencies where CERT is activated and have completed the following training requirements: 

  1. Be at least 16 years of age.
  2. Possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license or ID card.
  3. Complete the Emergency Management application form.
  4. Submit certificates for FEMA independent study courses IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800.
  5. Complete the entire process for a background check.

In the meantime, you can gain knowledge with free online courses recommended for those interested in CERT and Emergency Management topics:

  • IS-315: CERT and Incident Command System
  • IS-317: Introduction to Community Emergency Response Team

The Comanche County Emergency Operation Plan (EOP) outlines basic operating guidelines for the volunteers during natural and man-made disasters.  The CERT team may assist the Emergency Management Director to supplement the following tasks:

  • Basic Search and Rescue (SAR)
  • Setting up triage sites
  • Damage assessments
  • Basic first aid at disaster sites
